Definition
Youth or adolescence is a stage of human development occurring between puberty and legal adulthood. However, definitions vary widely: some consider youth to end with the teenage stage whereas for others, youth ends only around age 30.[1] The United Nations General Assembly and the World Bank considers youth to be between 15 and 24 years.
The beginning of adulthood varies by country, by function and by socio-cultural context. In general, adolescence is characterized by an increased independence allowed by the parents or legal guardians.
Special concern with youth
Youth tends to be more endangered by risk behaviour related to health (Child Behaviour and Risk). Furthermore, educational attainment is often evaluated at that stage (e.g. PISA).
