In order to monitor sustainable development, the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (SFSO), the Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) and the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) developed the indicator system MONET. It aims to provide international comparisons on the social, economic and environmental situations and trends. The simplified form of this system consists of 17 indicators. Drawing on more than 100 indicators, this monitoring tool permits regular reporting on the status and progress of sustainable development in Switzerland.

Happiness in Switzerland

This is an overview of findings on Happiness in Switzerland. The available findings are presented in the latest ‘Nation Report’ on Switzerland [1]. This report is ordered by type of happiness questions and within these types by year. This ordering is to facilitate the assessment of progress, comparison over time being most fruitful using the same questions.
The report presents means and standard deviations, both on the original scale range and transformed to a common range 0-10. The means inform about the level of happiness in the country and the standard deviations about inequality of happiness.
Links provide more detail about the precise text of the question, the full distribution of responses and technical details of the survey. The report is continuously updated.

Sustainable Development Strategy 2012-2015

European Papers on the New Welfare: The Counter-Ageing Society, 2005, The Risk Institute, Switzerland. "Society is getting older" how often have we heard this statement! But it is mistaken. The lengthening of the life cycle, involving better physical and mental conditions in most cases, introduces us to a counter-ageing society, where the older generations are clearly "younger" than they have been in the past (in Italian this is called the process of "svecchiamento"). The rest of the developing world, where the generations of those under 30 and 20 years of age are still dominant, will soon (in two or three decades) achieve the demographic structure of the industrialized countries.
