Multidimensional Poverty Index

The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) for Philippines is 0.064. The MPI is an international measure of acute poverty covering 109 countries. The MPI reflects the multiple deprivations that poor people face at the same time in three dimensions: health, education and living standards. The MPI reflects both the incidence or headcount ratio (H) of poverty – the proportion of the population that is multidimensionally poor – and the average intensity (A) of their poverty – the average proportion of indicators in which poor people are deprived. More information on the MPI in Philippines is available here.

Happiness in Philippines

This is an overview of findings on Happiness in Philippines. The available findings are presented in the latest ‘Nation Report’ on Philippines [1]. This report is ordered by type of happiness questions and within these types by year. This ordering is to facilitate the assessment of progress, comparison over time being most fruitful using the same questions.
The report presents means and standard deviations, both on the original scale range and transformed to a common range 0-10. The means inform about the level of happiness in the country and the standard deviations about inequality of happiness.
Links provide more detail about the precise text of the question, the full distribution of responses and technical details of the survey. The report is continuously updated.

Policy Uses of the Philippine System of Economic Environmental Accounts (PSEEA), 2000, Glenn-Marie Lange, Philippine Economic-Environmental and Natural Resources Accounting Inter-Agency Committee, National Statistical Coordina, Philippines. All economies are heavily dependent on the environment as a source of materials and energy, as a sink for waste products, and as the physical habitat for human communities. This capacity of the environment constitutes our "natural" capital, which needs to be maintained intact, if not augmented, for sustainable development. Nevertheless, the state of this essential asset is rarely measured or monitored and often compromised for economic growth. Over the past decade, many countries have begun to seek environmentally sustainable strategies for development. Few people would dispute the importance of integrating environmental concerns into economic thinking. The question is, how can this be done in practical, operational terms? One approach to operationalize sustainable development has been to incorporate aspects of sustainability into the system of national accounts (SNA) through the system of integrated environmental and economic accounts, or SEEA (United Nations, 1993).
