The Governance Assessment Portal is co-ordinated by the Oslo Governance Centre of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), (Norway). The Portal aims to be a hub of information and a valuable entry-point on democratic governance assessments for the UNDP staff, national counterparts and the wider community of stakeholders with information on:.[1]
- tools for assessing governance
- existing initiatives for measuring democratic governance at the national, regional and global level
- how to measure governance with regard to specific areas of governance such as corruption or local governance
- how to use global indicators more correctly
- opportunities to connect and share knowledge with other practitioners and experts.
The Portal is funded and managed through the global window of the UNDP Global Programme on Democratic Governance Assessments.
Progress Initiatives
Democratic Governance Assessments
The Democratic Governance Assessments aims to assist developing countries produce governance indicators to enable national stakeholders to better monitor performance in democratic governance reforms.[2] The global programme develops the capacities of government, the national statistics office and civil society in order to reach this goal. Data collection, maintenance, analysis and creating national development plans for democratic governance are the main tasks. This Global Programme was started in 2008 and will end in 2011. It is a continuation of the Governance Indicators Project, which lasted from 2004 to 2007.
