About
Gender equality is often thought as desirable and legitimate policy goals in itself, as evidenced by the existence of the third Millennium Development Goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. Gender equality can however, as evidence suggests, also increase efficiency: increased opportunities for women correlate with higher human development outcomes, poverty reduction, higher child well-being and - although evidence for this relationship is weaker - might accelerate GDP growth.[1] Thus, gender equality can said to be positively related to a multidimensional understanding of progress.
