Definition 

”Gapminder is a non-profit venture promoting sustainable global development and achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by increased use and understanding of statistics and other information about social, economic and environmental development at local, national and global levels.”


Brief History

2005: Ola Rosling, Anna Rosling Rönnlund and Hans Rosling founded Gapminder Foundation. The initial activity was to continue developing the Trendalyzer software.

2006: Trendalyzer became Gapminder World, a web-service displaying time series of development statistics for all countries.

2007: Google acquired Trendalyzer from the Gapminder Foundation.

After 2007: Gapminder Foundation maintains its aim and continues to show major global development trends with animated statistics.


Gapminder World

It collects more than 200 Indicators displaying the trends in some cases back to the year 1800 and updating and refined constantly.
It also has a number of sub-graphs, such as US-states, provinces in China displaying trends on sub-national level and to show inter sub-graph differences
A special graph comparing stats and provinces in China, US and India to the rest of the countries in the world.
