2010 Global Peace Index (GPI) Report

The GPI, a friend of the wiki, announced the 2010 Index results on Wednesday. We have been working to promote their findings and have had a great response from the wiki community. See articles about the GPI on the wiki: The Global Peace Index, 2010 Global Peace Index Released

Caught in the Time Crunch: Time Use, Leisure and Culture in Canada
The Canadian Index of Wellbeing released a new report on the 15th of June which finds more Canadians are struggling to meet the competing demands of the workplace, their families and their own need to refresh body and mind.

Award winning wiki

Wikigender, the sister wiki of wikiprogress, was awarded the 2009 Gender Mainstreaming Champion this month. The award was officially given to the Poverty Reduction and Social Development Unit of the Global Development Team that launched wikigender in 2008. We are delighted to see the hard work of the wikigender team be recognised and to have such a positive response to the wiki platform.

New Design

We are thrilled to announce the new design of wikiprogress. The homepage is where you will notice the biggest difference. If you would like us to talk you through it, please feel free to contact us.

The most important, and relevant change for the Friends of the Wiki, is that your progress initiative will be featured on the mainpage. Also, should you have an event or interesting news that you would like highlighted to the progress community, we will be able to help your promotion by adding a video or article to In the Spotlight.

Progress Initiatives

The wiki is not just for articles, but also for learning about key organisations and initiatives in the progress community. We have started a basic article for each of your progress initiatives on the wiki, and would like to ask you to review them and send us any further information/links/images that you would like us to add. Please click on your organisation or initiative below:

The Bruno Kessler Foundation, The Canadian Council on Learning, The Canadian Index of Well-Being, Development Initiatives, Eurostat, The Global Peace Index, The Global Social Change Research Project, The Happy Planet Index, IDB, ILO, Initiatives for Change-Centre for Governance, Inter-American Development Bank, Israel's Progress Index, Istat, Peace Dot, SUSA, World Bank, World Database of Happiness

Data

Phase one of work on the wikiprogress.stat browser has ended. Though some minor bugs can persist, most have been eradicated and information and databases have been entered and can already be viewed. Wikiprogress.stat is now entering the phase of data outreach, seeking database owner’s permission to use their series and inviting external users to submit their own data.

Fundraising

As mentioned in the April update, we have embarked on a fundraising campaign for wikiprogress. We have applied for a selection of grants and are in discussion with several progress organisations. If you know an organisation that would be interested in supporting wikiprogress or if you would like to offer your expertise to assist with the grant proposals please contact angela.hariche@oecd.org

Environmental Experts Wanted

We recently researched our Google Query statistics (phrases/words that people search for on Google that lead them to wikiprogress) and discovered we have a large amount of visitors who are directed to the site when they search for words/phrases related to the environment. We would like to develop and update our articles in the category of Ecosystems Condition. We are asking our network of friends to help us by recommending environmental experts who would be interested in contributing.

Blogging for Progress

The wiki’s Prog Blog has had some really interesting posts this month, including Jon Hall’s Dethroning GDP: the King is dead, long live the King? Dominic Richardson’s Equality is so unfair…, Chris Watkin’s Can the Internet help the poor? and Johannes Jutting’s Social cohesion in a "shifting world": going up or down?. We are always interested in new ideas, so if you have something that you would like to share with the wiki community, please let us know and we will add you as a guest blogger.

Wikiprogress May Statistics

Despite the public holidays in France, the month of May was yet another successful month for wikiprogress: 6098 page views from 2488 visits, who spent just under 3 minutes on average browsing the site.
