The “Latin American Meeting of Researchers on Subjective Well-being” will take place on January 26-27, 2012. These days, seven distinguished Latin American researchers will meet in Mexico City, with the purpose of laying down the general guidelines for measuring and researching subjective well-being, and for using [Subjective Well-being subjective well-being]] in public policy. In order to achieve this, the next questions will be approached:

1) Which are the “best ways” of measuring well-being in Latin America? The aim is to suggest a list of instruments for measuring subjective well-being, after discussing measurement issues such as the kind of questions and the answer scales to be used, as well as what are the biases that must be avoided.

2) What are the research topics that should be mainly attended by Latin American academics? The purpose is both, to make a list of the topics and to establish the guidelines for doing research on them so that Latin American academics can do research on them.

3) How can subjective well-being data be used to improve/modify public policy? The purpose is to point out its usefulness for the tasks carried out by Ministries, public offices, NGO’s and international organisms, among others:

The goal of this document is to set coherence and an orientation to the many efforts and interests of the region, which are now diffuse. It does not seek to impose approaches but to contribute to the measurement of subjective well-being, as well as its research and uses for public policies.
