Date 26/01/2012
City Brussels
Country Belgium
Summary Summary::Implications of civil society in the development of complementary indicators.

Overview

Two years after the release of the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Report the issue of generally accepted indicators other than GDP to express the progress and the achievements of a given socio-political community has achieved a strong public interest dimension. The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) as the European institutional body representing organised civil society is holding a hearing to explore how to better involve stakeholders in choosing complementary indicators to GDP. A Study Group of our Commitee is currently involved in the preparation of an Opinion on "GDP and beyond" and Mr Stefano Palmieri is the Rapporteur of the Group.
